Below are the works I did during the second half of fall semester of 2018. In these works I studied with more ink, both pen and brush. I really enjoyed using ink more than in I have in the past because I felt now much more confident with my ability to use the inkwell and brush. Also Doing another charcoal reduction this half of the semester I found a lot easier because after more and more use of the charcoal and kneaded eraser and drawing more realism made it easier to see more of the highlights and do a better image than before. I have really enjoyed this class for many reasons. Above all I couldn't be more happy with how far I came in my confidence and quality of drawings. Before this class if you told me to draw a person you would get a stick figure, but today I would actually spend some time and really look at a subject to draw something real. Today I also look at things and the idea to draw it randomly pops into my head, before this would of been crazy for me because I didn't have the slightest idea of how to draw what I saw. I now see those highlights, the darker lines, the changes in hue or shade, or even distance more when I draw and am able to capture it much better than I was able to before. For me nature and architecture are huge inspirations. The little shack in the mountains is probably my favorite thing to draw now even though I have done it more than a dozen times. This summer me and my family are taking a trip to Germany, my favorite place in the world, and I will definitively be bringing a sketchbook with me now. I truly think I look at everything different now. Whenever I see something interesting I wonder if I can draw it and only a few times have I had the materials with me to actually do it. I think I should keep a sketchbook in my car or something so I can always have the materials on me to draw more things that inspire me.
This is my charcoal reduction. Where I took a piece of charcoal and covered a white sheet of paper and used my eraser to create the objects. This still life contains a book, vase, and log in the back.
Here are my two perspective drawing. The one on the left is of a hallway inside the Khiele Art Building at SCSU. I did this one mostly in class studying perspective and distance. By using a vanishing point and precise lines I was able to create the illusion of depth. The drawing on the right is a sketch I did of my living room at home. I did this drawing because, well I needed to for class, but I was bored sitting in my living room and just felt like drawing the room.
These would be my ink drawings. the image on the left is of the third floor of the ISELF Building at SCSU. I did this drawing with a 05 and 01 Micro pen. The building is very modern and full of light with lots of glass walls making the not so big hallways seem very wide and open. My uncle and godfather is an architect and a partner at the Miller Architects here in St.Cloud and helped design the Miller Library here at SCSU which i personally believe is a beautiful building. His work and other architecture have always interested me and if I wasn't going to school for graphic design I would most likely be going for architecture. Creating a building as a work of art is a gift. The work on the right is just of an image I found online of a little shack on a cliff overlooking the ocean. In the image there was a definite yet suttle contrast of light but didn't want to overdue the drawing so on the back side I had the ink bleed through the help create that contrast.
